If you hear that a former Chief Justice has became a Buddhist monk, your first thought may perhaps turn to the former Chief Justive of Sri Lanka Sarath Nanda Silva. Chief Justice Silva while a sitting judge thought nothing of preaching Buddhism on national television. Not only that he openly claimed Sri Lanka to be a Sinhala Buddhist country. Chief Justice Sarath N Silva was also a friend of President Mahinda Rajapakse. Many years ago, Silva’s young son was even among Mahinda Rajapakse’s wedding entourage as a page boy.
A month earlier in a European city, I had met two journalists living in exile. They described the circumstances in which they operated during the final stages of the war. They used cellphones to film bombings, uploaded the videos with brief narrations, and promptly left the scene because Sri Lankan forces had the means to identify where the signals were emanating from, and once they had tracked down the location, they attacked the place with reasonable accuracy. I found their account credible; it also explained why those videos had jerky camerawork and why they ended so abruptly, making it difficult to piece together the images into a coherent narrative.

සරසවි ආචාර්යවරුන් විශාල පිරිසක් සහභාගී වු එම විරෝධතා පාගමන කොළඹ විශ්ව විද්යාලය අසලින් ආරම්භ කර කොළඹ මහජන පුස්තකාලය තෙක් පැමිණියේ ය. එම පාගමන කොළඹ සෞන්දර්ය විශ්ව විද්යාලය අසලට පැමිණෙන විට විශ්ව විද්යාල සිසුන් විශාල පිරිසක් එම ස්ථානයට රැස් වී එම පාගමනට තමන්ගේ සහය පළකර සිටිම විශේෂ සිද්ධියක් විය.

Testimonial Therapy for Anjela CroosIt is with great joy that we announce the release of Anjella Croos (25) the young English teacher who was imprisoned for almost 02 years at the Raja Veediya remand prison in Kandy as a “Terror” suspect. Prior to her arrest on the 10th August 2009 Anjela was teaching at an Teldeniya, Bopitiya Nawalar estate Tamil school, Her release came after the hard work of her father Anthony Croos along with the Human Rights office staff in Kandy. Anjela suffered from Lupers and was on medication before her arrest, but until the Supreme Court ordered the prison authorities to allow Anjela to consult her doctor, she had to suffer with her illness without proper treatment. It is with gratitude we mention Mr. Palitha Fernando, the additional solicitor general whose intervention made possible for Anjela to see the life out of the walls of the prison. We extend our sincere appreciation to all those who cared for her and joined our campaign to free her. On the instructions of the attorney generals’ department the high court of Judge in Kandy finally pronounced that Anjela is innocent and she walked out of the prison on the 15th March 2011.
